Jimmy G is about to reset the QB market... AGAIN

Jimmy G just keeps winning and winning despite being considered by most, the weak link on an otherwise rock solid 49ers roster. When the 49ers kept him on their roster this summer, the overwhelming majority of "experts" felt that it was because there was no market for Jimmy G. Well fast forward 3 and a half months. Garappolo finds himself exactly where he was a year ago. He's the starting quarterback for a surging 49ers team that is poised to make yet another deep playoff run. Only this time, Jimmy G holds all the cards when it comes to where he plays next year. The 49ers can't use the franchise tag on him per his contract. So, that means if he leads them to the Super Bowl the 49ers can't do anything to keep him on the roster other than hope. In 35+ years of watching the NFL, I can't ever remember a situation like this. Once upon a time, the 49ers made Garappolo the highest paid QB in the NFL. This upcoming offseason, some other team will pay dearly for Jimmy G's services and reset the market for slightly above average quaterbacks. That will, in turn, reset the market for franchise quaterbacks; making the Browns look like they got Deshaun Watson at a discount. Watson's only on the books for $1MM this year. So, assuming he stays healthy for the next few seasons, they're going to get their money's worth out of his contract. Now, think about how much the Ravens will have to pay to keep Lamar Jackson if Jimmy G has another deep playoff run or Super Bowl win and gets $150MM - $175MM over 5 years from a team like the Jets, Commanders, or Colts. Just to name a few. The NFL QB market is about to be reset, and Jimmy G is the one that's going to do it. AGAIN! You can't make this stuff up.
