In a historic match, the #13 ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish faced an FCS and HBCU school for the first time ever and came away with a dominating 56-3 victory against an overmatched Tennessee State team. Quarterback Sam Hartman starred with 194 passing yards and two touchdowns, completing 14 of 17 passes before taking the entire 2nd half off. Hartman's 5-yard touchdown run, complete with a somersault, stole the show during his Irish home debut. Meanwhile, Audric Estime contributed 116 rushing yards and a touchdown, including a 50-yard run setting up Hartman's acrobatic score. Estime is averaging 105 rushing yards over the 1st two games. Hartman has 6 passing touchdowns in 6 quarters of play so far. Coach Marcus Freeman praised Hartman's performance and the team's offense, while Tennessee State's coach Eddie George commended Hartman's composure
Notre Dame's dominance extended to defense, as they held Tennessee State to just 156 total yards. Notre Dame's defense has now gone two games without allowing a touchdown, an impressive feat. In fact, although they've played inferior competition, after two games, the defense has scored as many points as they have allowed. The longest pass for Tennessee State on Saturday was a 33 yard pick 6 by Notre Dame's senior cornerback Clarence Lewis.
In terms of CFP prospects, Notre Dame's convincing win could potentially boost their ranking into the top 10. They'll have a chance to make a real push towards the top 5 when they face significant challenges against North Carolina State and Ohio State in upcoming games. #icouldbewrong, but I said it last week and I'll say it again: Look out CFP. Here comes the Irish!
