#icouldbewrong but the fact that the biggest news coming out of Crypto.com Arena is that the arena has a new name should tell you something about the state of its tenants. The Lakers and Clippers have both underwhelmed this year and it doesn't look like either team's fanbase has reason to be optimistic about the rest of the season. For all of the talent and star power these teams have assembled, the results just aren't good enough.
The Clippers are the definition of disappointment. Look no further than Kawhi Leonard's availability history. Paul George, as good as he can be, is not good enough to carry this team through the gauntlet of the NBA's Western Conference without the man that recruited him to L.A. The Clippers will soon lose both players in free agency slip back into irrelevance. Not even Steve Ballmer's money can overcome the curse that is the Los Angeles Clippers.
After mortgaging their future to win the Bubble Championship, the Lakers have signed and traded for old player after old player. Now they find themselves with a broken roster full of declining and oft injured veterans that just doesn't work. It doesn't help that the player that was supposed to be at the center of the Lakers' return to dominance, Anthony Davis, has been their least dependable player since winning Finals MVP in the Bubble. The reality for the Lakers is that Lebron built this roster knowing he can basically leave whenever he wants and reboot with another team just like he's always done. They will be stuck holding the bag when does decide his time as a Laker is up.
Hey at least the weather is nice...
