Everyone can see the inevitable departure of Jimmy Garoppolo from the 49ers. Though Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch have tried to imply that there's a possibility they keep him to increase his trade value, most can see the writing on the wall. So, assuming he's traded, which team would Jimmy G maximize fantasy value for? Keep in mind this is not just about Garoppolo's fantasy value. It's also about how much more fantasy value he would provide to each potential new teams players versus their current situation. I've identified ONE team as the front runner and it's NOT EVEN CLOSE.
Pittsburgh Steelers - Garoppolo and Big Ben posted very similar stats last season. But Roethlisberger has retired and the Steelers are left with Mason Rudolf as their starting QB. Unless they land the likes of Russell Wilson or Aaron Rodgers, Garoppolo is the next best option. Even if the Steelers choose to draft a QB in this years NFL Draft it would be fair to assume Garoppolo would still provide more fantasy value to the likes of Diontae Johnson, Chase Claypool, Pat Freiermuth and Najee Harris. With the possibility of Juju Smith Schuster returning as well, the Steelers are my number one option for getting maximum fantasy value out of a trade for Jimmy Garoppolo. They have best supporting cast of QB needy teams in my opinion so a great situation for Garoppolo in general and great for fantasy managers with shares of Johnson, Claypool, Freiermuth or Harris.
